The University of Limerick

The University of Limerick (UL) has over 14,000 students and 1,426 staff in four faculties: Science and Engineering, Education and Health Sciences, Business and Humanities. Since 2013, UL has secured >€130M in research funding and invested >€80 M in the ongoing capital development of research and teaching, enterprise and sports facilities. With a five star rating for innovation and excellence from QS, UL has a strong international reach and involvement in the Framework research projects from FP2 to Horizon 2020. UL was awarded the HR Excellence in Research logo and has signed up to the Athena SWAN Charter for Women in Science and received a bronze award. Priority research areas in Science and Engineering include materials and surface science, software and biomedical engineering.

SSPC

SSPC, the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Research Centre for Pharmaceuticals, is a hub of Irish pharmaceutically relevant research expertise developing innovative technologies addressing key challenges facing the pharmaceutical industry with focus on continuous manufacturing, modular equipment and process control systems.

SSPC has a substantial effect on the yield of Research and Development (R&D) and economic outputs in Ireland and are the support mechanism that will help build Ireland as a global leader in innovation. SSPC is led by the University of Limerick (UL) at the Bernal Institute, in partnership with University College Cork, National University of Galway, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, University College Dublin, Waterford IT, Maynooth University and Royal College of Surgeons Ireland. Technische Universität Dortmund (TUD)

Technische Universität Dortmund (TUD) hosts 16 faculties ranging from natural science and engineering to social sciences and humanities.

The university currently counts over 34,000 students – about 4,000 of those being international students – and 6,200 members of staff, including 300 professors. Over 1,000 third-party funded projects bear witness to TUD’s strong focus on research, including a range of collaborative projects such as 8 (transregional) Collaborative Research Centers, a Cluster of Excellence, several Research Training Groups of the German Research Foundation and Horizon 2020 research consortia, including ITNs, as well as 9 ERC grants.

The Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering is the largest of its kind among all German universities and one of the largest in Europe. As an interdisciplinary centre, the department includes all major scientific areas that are relevant for chemical and biochemical production processes, from scientific fundamentals to process and plant design, and operation. The department has excellent state-of-the-art experimental facilities and technical support staff.

Trinity College Dublin (TCD)

Trinity College Dublin (TCD) is recognised internationally as Ireland's leading university and is ranked in 104th position in the world by the QS World University Rankings 2018/2019. It is a member of the prestigious League of European Research Universities.

The TCD School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is ranked is ranked in the top 100 in the Pharmacy subject area (*QS World University and Subject Rankings) and 34 by the Asian Shanghai ARWU subject rankings in 2018. The School was established in 1977 and is the oldest academic pharmaceutical institution in Ireland.

Janssen Pharmaceutica (Janssen) is internationally recognised as one of the leading pharmaceutical companies with a track record of bringing innovative medicines to the market across a multitude of therapeutic areas.

Janssen is involved in the End-to-End activities from drug discovery over process development, clinical testing to commercial manufacturing and marketing. Janssen has a particularly strong position in the Central Nervous System disease area where it pioneered in bringing LongActing nanosuspensions to the market. Janssen brings expertise on a variety of activities relevant for this project: crystallization process development, plant design, drug formulation, ADME, chemical and pharmaceutical process engineering, solid state development, synchrotron imaging/structures and computational studies.
